Lenn Redman - Mid-Century Modern Artist, Author, Educator, Entertainer & Civil Rights Activist
Lenn created over 200,000 caricatures, paintings and animation art in his lifetime. With over 1,000 pieces of animation art, caricatures, paintings and historical artifacts in our collection, content is constantly being added to the site. From the 1930’s to the 1980’s Lenn Redman's artistic abilities and entertaining personality captivated audiences around the world. Be it on TV or Radio, at Conventions or Private Parties, Lenn's experience drawing more than 200,000 faces from life placed him in a league of his own. Utilizing his tremendous experience, he authored his first book, ‘How To Draw Caricatures’ to help educate others. The book is still in print, sold around the world and continues to be the leading publication in the field.
Lenn was an independent working artist his entire career. He owned the Lenn Redman Commercial Arts studio in Chicago and for over 20 years provided advertising artwork to some of the leading corporations around the nation. Lenn Redman’s career actually started and ended as an animator. He started his animation career in the 'Golden Years of Animations' with Walt Disney, Leon Schlesinger and other newly formed 1930’s LA animation production houses. Lenn finished his animation career in LA working for Filmation & Hanna-Barbera on hit shows Superman, Aquaman and other 1960’s Saturday morning cartoons.
Lenn left the field shortly after the Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. assassinations to devote his remaining years entirely to his personal campaign to offset racial and national prejudice. He authored a second book, ‘What Am I?”, an illustrated poem of human diversity & inclusion in both book form and large-format lithographs.
Lenn passed away in 1987 at the age of 75. His talents continue to entertain and educate fans around the world. His family has preserved his amazing and entertaining collection of Mid Century Modern American art history all can enjoy with a message of world peace needed to be heard now more than ever!
